Winter is coming, and this is how snow emergencies work in the municipalities we serve.
When a township or borough declares a snow emergency, all vehicles must be removed from the designated snow emergency routes before the emergency takes effect. Vehicles left on those routes are subject to ticketing and towing.
Ontelaunee Township’s January 2026 declaration is the pattern to expect: the emergency was announced in advance, took effect at 2200 hours on Saturday, January 24, 2026, and remained in effect until further notice, with all vehicles required to be off the snow emergency routes before it started.
Watch this website and the department Facebook page when winter weather is forecast, move your vehicles off snow routes early, and keep them off until the emergency is lifted. That keeps the routes clear for plows and for emergency vehicles, including ours.
